What is Binding & Allowed Cancel Date Extension

The following manual applies only for Subscriptions following a Normal Billing Scheme

A Subscription's Binding End Date is the date on which a subscriber's contract ends. For example, a Pay TV company offers a package with a 10% discount provided the customer remains subscribed for at least 12 months. i.e., the Binding End Date is 12 months from the Contract's Start Date.

A Subscription's Allowed Cancel Date is the earliest date on which a Subscription can be cancelled without a penalty.  In most cases, Binding End and Allowed Cancel Date are the same and updated by the System simultaneously with the same increment. However, the user can alter the dates by keeping the Binding End Date static while only updating the Allowed Cancel Date or vice versa.

Subscription Binding End and Allowed Cancel Dates can be extended by Actions which are applied on the Subscription. When the Dates are extended, the initial binding date and the reason for each extension are registered for troubleshooting purposes.

Unless otherwise configured by the business, Dates are not extended automatically.  If the Binding End Date is set after the current Allowed Cancel date, the Allowed Cancel Date is extended up to the Binding End Date by default.

How does Binding End & Cancel Date extension work?

Both dates are extended in tandem by default.  The user can define reasons for date extensions through the Normal Billing Term Schemes. Depending on business rules established through the configuration of the Billing Term Scheme - 'Binding Period Extensions', Subscription Actions executed on Subscriptions can alter  either of the Dates.

The available options for extending the Binding End Date are the following:

  • Extend based on days in resting, as specified in Extend Binding End Date causes
  • Extend based on not effective days, as specified in Extend Binding End Date causes
  • Extend based on grace periods, as specified in Extend Binding End Date causes
  • Extend based on new services that were added as effective, as specified in Services Extending Binding

The available options for extending the Allowed Cancel Date are the following:

  • Extend based on days in resting, as specified in Extend Allowed Cancel Date causes
  • Extend based on not effective days, as specified in Extend Allowed Cancel Date causes
  • Extend based on grace periods, as specified in Extend Allowed Cancel Date causes
  • Extend based on new services that were added as effective, as specified in Services Extending Binding

The Binding End and Allowed Cancel Date will be extended accordingly when any of the Actions above are executed in the System, according to configurations.  The initial dates will remain unchanged.
