Passes Business Features
Business Feature / Process | Description |
|---|---|
Passes | A Pass unlocks a gift, top-up or promotion for a contact. When a pass is redeemed, it either credits the contact’s CRM.COM Wallet or applies a discount to a purchase or recurring billing fee. A pass can be distributed in printed or electronic forms. |
Pass Plans | Pass Plans define the characteristics of the passes that will be generated. Multiple Pass Plans can be configured to support different business needs, and a Pass Plan must exist before any passes can be created. There are three classifications for Passes: Gift, Top-up, and Promotion. A Pass Plan can optionally be linked to a Commerce Pool (thus, crediting the Commerce Pocket) and defines the conditions under which the funds can be spent. A Pass Plan has a currency, indicating the currency of the passes' monetary values and can only be one of the business’s enabled currencies. A Pass can only be redeemed if the contact’s CRM.COM Wallet has the same currency as the plan’s and the pass’s currency. A Pass Plan can be created by copying an existing plan. Pass Plans that already have at least one generated Pass cannot be modified. |
Create Passes | Passes are generated according to their Pass Plan, either on demand or automatically, depending on their format:
|
Update passes | Update pass actions, such as modifying a pass’s state or PIN, are available through the back end. Additional updates, including changing a pass’s expiration date, initial value, or PIN, can be performed via the Web API. |
Promotion Pass | Promotion Passes unblock either to a reward offer or a promotion, each carrying specific conditions of use.
Promotion Passes are available exclusively in electronic format and do not have associated PINs. A respective communication plan is required to inform the relevant contact segments about the promotion. These passes are used to support promotions and can target specific products, services, and contact segments. |
Gift Pass | A Gift Pass is purchased, loaded with funds, and offered to the beneficiary as a gift. Gift Passes are available in two formats: electronic (sent via SMS or email) and printed (typically sold in-store). A Gift Pass is redeemed into either the Business Pocket or the Commerce Pocket of the contact’s CRM.COM Wallet. It can be redeemed by registered (named) contacts, or newly created nameless contacts, who may later choose to become named contacts. Electronic Gift Passes are generated on demand through CRM.COM Landing Pages (for secure eGift purchases) or via Web APIs. If necessary, electronic Gift Passes can be manually re-sent to beneficiaries through the back end if they were not successfully delivered the first time. |
Top-up Pass | Top-up passes are purchased and redeemed to credit the CRM.COM Wallet of an existing contact, and the credited amount can be used to pay for services or future purchases. Top-up passes can be purchased electronically (whereby the contact receives an SMS or email) or in a physical store (via an external retailer or eKiosk). Electronic top-up passes are generated on demand, at the buyer’s request. |
Redeem a Pass | Redeeming a Gift or Top-up Pass credits the contact’s CRM.COM Wallet with the value of the pass, enabling the contact to spend those funds. For Promotion Passes, redemption either unlocks a reward offer (either in the form of cashback, or an instantly redeemable amount which is spent on the purchase at hand). Additionally, it can activate a promotion, granting the contact a one-off or recurring service discount on upcoming invoices. |
Passes Codes & PIN | Gift and top-up passes can optionally use the PIN functionality for increased security reasons. The PIN, together with the pass code, must be provided by the contact to redeem and subsequently spend the pass funds. PINs are not applicable for promotion passes. |

Custom Fields | If you need to capture information for Passes not natively supported by CRM.COM, you can create custom fields of various formats to meet your specific requirements. Any Custom Fields added to a Pass Plan are inherited by the Passes when they are created, and can then be individually edited for each pass if necessary. |
