Commerce Pools
Commerce Pools define the conditions (such as time, location, products, or validity) that control how Commerce Pocket funds can be spent. For example, a €15 award credited to a contact’s Commerce Pocket, can only be spent when purchasing a smartwatch from Smart Tech and is valid for 6 months.
All Commerce Pocket funds are associated to a specific Commerce Pool.
THE ESSENTIALS
Firstly, let's explain a few things about Commerce Pools.
Restrictions
The Commerce Pool restrictions can be related to times, locations, products and validity/expiration.
Where can Commerce Pools be used?
Commerce pools can optionally be added to:
Reward Offers.
Transfer of funds (via back-end or front-end apps).
Top-up transactions (via back-end or front-end apps).
Manual Journal transactions (via the back-end only).
Pass Plans.
Wallet sharing (configurable by the community owner via apps or by a back-end system for a Company type contact).
B2B Commerce Pools
A business can choose to share its Commerce Pool(s) with other businesses under the same Service Owner, therefore allowing another business to award it’s contacts using the ‘shared’ commerce pool(s). Learn more about the B2B Network and shared Commerce Pools here.
Managing Commerce Pools
When viewing Commerce Pools in Test Mode, only the default predefined pool Spend Anywhere within a year is visible.
In Live Mode, however, you'll also see any Commerce Pools that other businesses in your network have published, making them available for shared use within the same Service Owner network.
Create a Commerce Pool
Select Create Commerce Pools, provide a unique name and optionally provide a description of the commerce pool.
Name - The Commerce Pool name.
Description - Commerce Pool description with details of the spending conditions.
Classification - Choose how to treat redeemed amounts in each Commerce Pool, either as a Sales Reduction (before tax) or a Payment Method (after tax). This also determines whether the discount should be excluded from tax for legal reporting. This setting only applies when Commerce Pocket funds are used by the contact during a purchase.
Time Restrictions - Set the days and/or times when spending will be allowed. If none are set, then no restrictions apply.
Location Restrictions - Select the locations (merchants/venues) where spending the amount is allowed. If none are set, then no location restrictions apply.
Products Restrictions - Define which products (by brand, family, SKU, or type) must be purchased to spend the allocated amount. If no restrictions are set, the funds can be used on any product. For SKU-based restrictions, if a product has variants (e.g., sizes), you must specify the variant product SKUs, not the main product SKU.
Validity/Expiration Restrictions - Define the start date when the funds can be used and/or an expiration date after which any unused amount will be removed from the Wallet. If no dates are set, the funds will not have any expiration restrictions.
For cases when no conditions should apply to the Commerce balance, a Commerce Pool rule could be created (e.g. No restrictions) without any conditions defined.
Commerce Pool Options
The following options are available from the commerce pool summary screen:
View - View the commerce pool conditions.
Edit - A business can only Edit its own Commerce Pools.
Publish - A business can publish its Commerce Pool, making it available for other businesses in the same network to use when awarding their own contacts. For example, a spa creates and publishes a Commerce Pool for specific spa services. A gym can then use this pool to offer new members a 10% cashback, redeemable at the spa. When a contact joins the gym, they receive 10% cashback in their Commerce Pocket, which can be spent at the spa. Learn more about B2B Networks here.
Enable for communities - Allows the Commerce Pool to be used in wallet sharing set up by a community owner. This means community members can request or use funds from the community owner’s wallet, within the conditions set by the Commerce Pool.
Enable for Top Ups - Lets contacts top up their Commerce Pocket via an app using this Commerce Pool. The added funds can be spent according to the pool’s defined rules.
