Google Places
To use Google Places, you’ll need to:
Set up a project on the Google Cloud Platform
Enable the Places API
Generate an API key
Configure Google Places integration in CRM.COM
Â
Here’s how:
Step 1 - Set Up a Google Cloud Account
Go to the Google Cloud portal - Visit https://cloud.google.com/ .
Sign in or create a Google account - Log in with your Google account. If you haven’t got one, create it first.
Step 2 - Create a Billing Account
Google Cloud requires a billing account to access many of its services. Google offers $300 in free credits for new accounts.
Navigate to Billing - In the left-hand menu, click Billing.
Create a billing account - Click Manage Billing Accounts and then Create Account.
Provide your billing information
Select your country.
Agree to the Terms of Service.
Enter your payment details (credit/debit card or bank account).
Click Submit to activate the billing account.
Step 3 - Create a New Google Cloud Project
Navigate to the Google Cloud console - Click on Console in the top right corner.
Create a new project
Click on the Select a project drop-down at the top of the page, then select New Project.
Enter a project name, select a billing account, and, if desired, set an organisation.
Click Create to create the new project.
Step 4 - Enable the Places API for Your Project
Select your project - Ensure that your newly created project is selected in the top navigation bar.
Go to the API library - In the left sidebar, navigate to APIs & Services > Library.
Search for Places API - Type ‘Places API’ in the search bar.
Enable the API
Click on Places API in the search results, then click Enable.
This will activate the Google Places API for your project.
Step 5 - Generate an API Key
Navigate to API Credentials - In the left sidebar, go to APIs & Services > Credentials.
Create an API key
Click Create Credentials at the top, then select API Key.
Google Cloud will generate an API key for you, which will appear in a pop-up.
Restrict the API key (recommended)
Click Edit API Key to configure settings and restrict your API key.
Under Application restrictions, specify the platforms where the API key will be used (e.g., HTTP referrers for websites, IP addresses for server apps).
Under API restrictions, select Restrict key, then add Places API to restrict its use to only this API.
Save your changes.
Copy the API key - Once your API key is configured and saved, copy it and keep it somewhere safe. You will need it in the next and final step when configuring the Google Places integration in CRM.COM.
Step 6 - Setup Google Places Integration in CRM.COM
The final step requires the Google Places integration to be configured and enabled in CRM.COM.
Google Places integration configuration
Sign in to the back-end system and navigate to Platform > Integrations > Google Places.
Click on Setup and provide a name for your Google Places integration, then click Proceed.
Select Manage, provide the API key you saved in the previous step, and then click Save.
