Overview

Irdeto KMS is a provisioning system that is used to provision termed and usage services. CRM.COM provides a ready made implementation with Irdeto KMS, allowing to directly provision Irdeto subscribers, while managing subscribers within CRM.COM. Integration to Irdeto includes

  • Setting up Irdeto Provisioning Provider
  • Provisioning subscriptions through Irdeto
  • Sending messages to subscribers through their device (box mail and on-screen-display messages)
  • Sending individual and immediate signals to Irdeto KMS

Provisioning Provider

The setup of the Irdeto provisioning provider is the same as the one described at Provisioning - R15.

For information on the parameters required to connect to Irdeto please contact a CRM.COM consultant.

Managing subscription signals

Irdeto integration supports real time communication between CRM.COM and Irdeto. This means that at any point in time, given that there exists a communication between CRM.COM and Irdeto, when a subscription action takes place which affects the signals sent to the subscriber's device, such as, activation or deactivation of a channel or broadband service, then Irdeto will instantly receive a request from CRM.COM to act accordingly.

Reset multiple Subscriptions

Reset subscription runs are used as a backup to identify and synchronize subscriptions that have gone out of sync, by communicating the necessary commands to the CA/OTT platform. Subscriptions may get out of sync (for example, active in CRM.COM and inactive in Irdeto) if any of the two systems suffers from downtime or if the connection from CRM.COM to the platform is lost.

It is possible to preview the subscriptions that will be reset by the run, by using Preview from the Actions menu.  The run must be scheduled and executed.

You can limit the subscriptions which will be checked and reset by providing the period during which the subscriptions to be processed were created as well as the Subscription Types.

Reset Single Subscription

Like in the reset subscription run you can use the utility to update an out of sync subscription, so that the provider reflects the state in CRM.COM.

Send multiple messages

Mail runs are used to send messages to subscriber devices.  There are two types of messages that you can select from, they can be displayed in the set-top box (STB) mailbox (Mail) or directly on the screen (Message). Additionally you can also set the Text mode which you can select between ANSI, Unicode or Raw. We advice to use ANSI.

The process run does not create the messages; the messages are created in the system as communications (through notifications) and remain 'Pending' in the communication queue until the mail run is executed.  The mail run identifies the communications that should be handled by matching each entry in the communication queue 'Communication Queue External System' with one defined in the mail run.

Send single message

Sends on-screen messages (Message) or inbox messages (Mail) to either a single subscriber device or to all subscribers.

Provide the required information starting with the message type and text mode to be sent.  As the message text is provided through the utility, there is no related Communication (unlike message runs).

Setting parental PIN code

Resets the PIN of a single STB, either to its default value or to a value specified by the user.

Select the device to reset its PIN. To reset to a 'Given Value' also provide a New PIN, otherwise, the PIN is reset to the PIN code number defined at the Provisioning Provider screen. If nothing is set on the provider screen then the the default value is '0001'.

Setting and resetting of PIN is also available through WEB API.

Querying secure Client

A secure clients is the device that the subscriber owns and through which provisioning signals will be sent.  You can query a device by using the utility in order to receive helpful information, such as

  • Pairing information
  • Entitlements information
  • Basic information
  • Security information
  • Anchoring information
  • TMS Attribute information
  • Sector information
  • PVR information
  • Device domain information

Re-Authorizing secure client's sector

In case where subscriber's complain about loss of signal, agents can re-authorize the subscriber's device which will act as a refresh and may or may not solve the subscriber's issue. The utility is mostly used as a troubleshooting tool.

Reauthorization is also available through WEB API.

Business Flows

Communicating with customers through their devices

Scenario

Aluxsat Co. wants to send personalized messages to its subscribers that are:

  • Directly accessible through their set-top boxes (STBs)
  • Saved in their inbox.

Solution

Agents should use the 'Send mail & messages Utility', select the appropriate type of message for each method of communication, set the Text Mode to ANSI and provide the message.

Messages that can be accessed through the subscriber's STB inbox

Message

Messages that are shown on the subscriber's TV

Mail
Setting up multiple distribution points

Scenario

Aluxsat Co. offers its customers the option to have multiple viewing points for each subscription. Customers can have a separate 'box and card' pair in each room, and choose to have a different selection of channels available from each pair.  Up to four viewing points can be added to a subscription.

Solution

CRM.COM must have a different provisioning distributor available for each pair (box and card) offered to subscribers, as channel availability and restrictions can be set separately for each box.

To support this, the following distributors must be set up in the provisioning provider.

  • Main
  • TWIN1
  • TWIN2
  • TWIN3

For each of the provisioning distributors you must define that all services should be available. For each distributor you can provide a required distributor, that is, a distributor which should already be in use in order to activate a second one. I.e. to have Twin 1 you must already have Main.
